Ashwood’s Hannah Baines has won the award for ‘Managers Player’ this week, as part of West Bromwich Albion Women’s Football Club First Team Awards.
The first team, who welcomed Hannah to the club in November 2018, currently plays in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands.
Hannah’s football career began at the age of 8 when she joined Derby County Ladies Under 10’s. At 18, she received a scholarship to America where she played for the University of North Western Ohio, who went on to become national champions in the USA.
Her scholarship also led to further experiences playing in New Zealand and Italy, before heading back home to begin her journey at West Bromwich.
Speaking of the award, Hannah said: “To come in mid-season and click with a group of players is always great but to win an award from your coach means the world. It’s amazing to be recognised for my efforts in the team. A highlight has to be scoring 12 goals from a centre-back position and of course winning 19/20 league games!”
When asked how the children at Ashwood had responded to the news, Hannah, who has been a Sports Coach here since September 2018, commented: “The support I have received from the children has been lovely! I have received numerous hand-made cards, and just knowing that you’re creating an inspirational lead for both girls and boys is so rewarding. It’s something I aim to continue.”
Ashwood Headteacher, Paula Baines-Chambers congratulates Hannah; “As a school we are immensely proud of Miss Baines’ achievements and how she inspires our pupils daily through her teaching of sports and leading football at Ashwood.”
Congratulations Hannah – we’re so proud of you!
